Oil Wrestling
Oil Wrestling is a timed strategy minigame: read your opponent, choose a counter, and manage your stamina without becoming predictable.
How the match works
Each exchange gives you a few seconds to select a move. The first wrestler to win five exchanges wins the match. If neither reaches five within nine exchanges, the wrestler with more exchange wins takes the match. If those are tied, your overall performance determines the result.
Letting the timer expire concedes the exchange and costs resources.
Choose your opening approach
- AggressiveStart with more control, but spend stamina upfront.
- DefensiveStart with better composure and slightly more stamina.
- TechnicalGain a balanced boost to control and composure.
- ProvocativeBuild crowd excitement and gain starting control based on Seduction.
Your approach sets your opening position. You can still use every available move during the match.
Know your moves
| Move | Beats | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Push | Slip, Feint | Strong pressure, but heavy stamina use. Benefits from body tone. |
| Brace | Push | Helps restore composure, but still consumes stamina. Benefits from Willpower. |
| Slip | Brace | Uses body tone to gain leverage, with a significant stamina cost. |
| Feint | Brace, Slip | Benefits from Seduction and builds crowd excitement. |
| Yield Position | Concedes the exchange | Recovers some stamina and composure while giving up control. |
Matching your opponent’s move produces a drawn exchange.
Read the screen
- Intent: A clue to your opponent’s likely strategy. It does not guarantee their next move.
- Upperhand / Disadvantage: Shows who currently controls the match.
- Stamina: Powers your moves. Low stamina weakens your performance and can disable options.
- Composure: Helps you stay effective under pressure.
- Crowd Heat: Contributes to your performance score, but also makes decision time shorter.
- Last exchange: Shows both moves and the result so you can adjust.
Avoid repeating the same move
A second consecutive use becomes less effective. A third consecutive use gets countered and temporarily exhausts that move.
Using three different combat moves in succession earns extra leverage and Respect. Vary your moves while still responding to the opponent’s intent.
Tips for your first match
- Try a technical or defensive opening while learning.
- Against Drive, consider Brace; against Body Lock, consider Slip or Feint. These are useful reads, not guaranteed counters.
- Watch stamina before choosing another expensive move.
- Use Yield Position deliberately when recovery is worth conceding an exchange. It does not end the match.
- Read the last-exchange feedback, then make your next choice before the timer runs out.
- Focus on winning exchanges. A strong control bar alone does not guarantee victory.
