Sybian Minigame
The Sybian minigame is a timed endurance challenge. Your goal is to last through 10 turns, keeping arousal under control while managing composure, stamina, and focus.
The machine grows stronger as the trial progresses. Choose an action before each timer expires, and adjust to your current resources.
Understand the meters
- Arousal: Reaching 100 ends the trial with a loss of control.
- Composure: Helps reduce the machine’s arousal pressure each turn.
- Stamina: Pays for Brace.
- Focus: Pays for Breathe and Command.
- Nerve Bonus: Rewards your actions and contributes to your final score.
- Intensity: Shows the machine’s current strength. Higher intensity means more pressure and less decision time.
If both stamina and focus reach zero, the trial also ends.
Know your actions
| Action | What it does | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Breathe | Lowers arousal and slightly restores composure. | Spends focus; becomes less effective at higher intensity. |
| Brace | Reinforces composure and lowers arousal. | Spends stamina. Better body tone improves its arousal relief. |
| Focus | Restores focus for later actions. | Adds some arousal and reduces composure. |
| Command | Builds Nerve Bonus and restores composure. | Spends focus without directly lowering arousal. |
| Ride It Out | Builds a large Nerve Bonus and restores a little stamina. | Raises arousal and reduces composure. |
| Tap Out | Ends the trial immediately and records your performance. | Gives up the remaining turns. |
The machine applies pressure after your choice
Breathe and Brace reduce arousal first, but the machine then adds its own pressure. Your arousal meter can therefore rise overall even after a successful defensive action.
Leave yourself room below 100. An action that looks manageable can still be followed by enough machine pressure to end the trial.
Vary your actions
Repeating an action makes it less useful or increases its drawbacks. Using Breathe or Brace three times consecutively temporarily disables that action for the following turn.
Using three different actions in succession earns a small Nerve and composure bonus. Choose variety that fits your meters instead of changing moves only for the bonus.
How scoring works
Your score rewards:
- Lasting longer.
- Keeping composure.
- Preserving stamina and focus.
- Building Nerve Bonus.
- Reaching higher intensity.
Losing control sharply limits your final score. Tapping out records a partial result, so it can be useful when you expect the next turn to push you beyond your limits.
Tips for your first attempt
- Use Breathe when arousal needs attention and you have focus available.
- Use Brace to support composure while spending stamina instead of focus.
- Restore focus before it becomes too low to use your defensive options.
- Save Command and Ride It Out for moments when you have enough arousal headroom.
- Avoid repeatedly using the same defense.
- Read the last-result message, then choose promptly. A timeout adds arousal and drains composure and focus.
- Remember that Tap Out is always available.
